Meningitis Alert from New York City Department of Health

Adam4Adam sent out this message his week.  Thought we should do the same, so here's what A4A sent me...

We have been contacted by the New York City Department of Health and we want to let you know that there is an outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease in the City.

Invasive meningococcal disease is a severe bacterial infection that can cause meningitis (infection of the meninges ‐ a thin lining covering the brain and spinal cord) or meningococcemia (infection of the blood). The infection can also cause pneumonia or cause issues with your joints.

The Health Department recommends vaccination for all men who have intimate contact with other men.

Even if you do not feel sick you may be at risk so please talk to your doctor about getting vaccinated. If you do not have a doctor, or if your doctor does not have the vaccine, you can visit one of the City’s clinics. Go to nyc.gov/health/sitelocator or call 311 to find a clinic hear you.

For more information please check out nyc.gov/health/meningitis.

Most importantly, have fun and stay healthy!
